Plantar Fasciitis/Foot Pain

plantar fasciitis 1Plantar Fasciitis is one of the most common causes of foot and heel pain.  The pain is caused by inflammation of the ligament that runs along the bottom of the foot and heel, sometimes extending into the Achilles tendon and lower calf.  It is usually associated with fallen arches, which will cause the ligament to stretch and inflame.  Excessive running, jumping, or other activities that place repetitive stress on the tissue, can also contribute to the pain and inflammation.  Arthritis and diabetes can also be a factor.

Most Plantar Fasciitis presents as a burning, stabbing or aching pain in the heel or arch of the foot.  Since the ligament tightens up during the night while the individual sleeps, those first few steps in the morning can be excruciating.  The pain will usually decrease as the tissues warm up, but will easily increase again after long periods of standing, physical activity or getting up after long periods of sitting down.

Plantar-fascitis-2Low Level Laser Therapy, along with arch supports and calf stretches, is a very effective treatment for this condition.  In fact, the FDA just cleared an Erchonia laser specifically for the regenerative treatment of plantar
